Murchison Falls National Park is the country's largest protected area covering 3,840 sq km that protects a vast savannah land bisected by the mighty river Nile. It is one of the two oldest national parks that were gazeted in 1952 and it is home to a variety of mammals like the Graceful Rothschild Giraffe, Lelwel's Hartebeest, Uganda Kob, Bohor Reedbuck, Oribi among others

Murchison Falls National Park is also home to primates like Chimpanzee, Patas Monkey, Black and white Colobus Monkey to mention but a few. Murchison Falls National Park is home to 450 bird species among them the pre-historic looking Shoebill, Heuglin's Francolin, Abbyssinian Ground Hornbill, White-fronted Black Chat, Silverbird, Beautiful Sunbird, Speckle-fronted Weaver, White-browed Sparrow-Weaver, Bar-breasted Firefinch and White-rumped Seedeater among others.

Murchison Falls National Park is about 310 km from Kampala the capital city and you can access it via Masindi-Kicumbanyobo gate which is the short route or Masindi-Biiso-escarpment overlooking Lake Albert-Bugungu gate which is long but scenic
